Course Creators Weekly #3 π July 13th, 2020 - Refactoring UI: Concept to Launch
This week my favourite is a podcast interview with Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger discussing their book/video course called Refactoring UI, which was a massive success. The interview is over an hour long, but well worth listening to, if you ask me!
Enjoy the read/listen!
The Art of Product: 70: Refactoring UI: Concept to Launch
Adam Wathan and Steve Schoger discuss Refactoring UI, books, and online courses
- Audience first
- To build an audience, be genuinely helpful
- Looking for an idea? Find a frustrating problem
- Share your best content freely (no "lead magnets")
- Want to write a book? Maybe position it as a course
- There'll always be people who complainβaccept that
- Pre-launch, discount higher tiers more
- Lower your expectations for your first launch
- A landing page is not necessarily validation
How to outline your online course
This is a short, 12-minute video.
- Walk backwards
- Define student outcomes (use ACTION verbs)
- Map topics/lessons to outcomes
- Design assignments/tasks specific to outcomes
10 Steps To Creating A Wildly Successful Online Course
- Pick a topic you love + good at + experienced in
- Ensure there is demand + competition
- Set clear outcomes to attract ONLY the RIGHT students
- Gather content based on learning outcomes
- Group content + outline structure
- Decide content format + student experience
- Record/edit your lessons
- Choose where/how to host
- Price your course (I'd say sooner)
- Launch + forever marketing (again, I think this must be sooner + prelaunch sales)
